Vermouth was produced for the first time in Turin in 1786, in the little shop belonging to Antonio Benedetto Carpano. The fantastic tradition of the real Italian aperitif springs from the brilliant idea of adding herbal essencies and spices to wine and raising its strenght to around 18% to assist conservation. Today, with almost a century and a half of history behind it, this tradition is renewing itself by attracting bartenders and lovers of the drinking to the rediscovery of a unique and authentic taste. Casa Vinicola Luigi Calissano e Figli was founded in Alba in 1872. The winery, designed with the very latest criteria and with great business acumen, not only produced the classic wines of the Langhe Area and sparkling wines in the traditional way but also vermouth, the aromatized wine that was never absent from Piedmontese tables at the time
