Unique border country with its thousand years of history and witness to great battles and formidable renewal. Situated in the north-east of Italy on the border with Slovenia, it stretches between the Isonzo and Iudrio rivers with its nearly 1,500 hectares of vineyards.
The soil that distinguishes the area is Ponca, the marl and sandstone composition of which recalls its marine origins millions of years ago. The great capacity for drainage makes of Ponca a soil particularly suited to the cultivation of vines ensuring ideal ripening of the grapes and a noteworthy minerality in its wines both on the nose and palate.
The particular wine heritage of Formentini is in the form of 58 hectares of vineyards in the most celebrated areas for wine producing in the DOC Collio zone. The grapes are picked from about 150 parcels of land spread over 9 different localities in the north-eastern part of the DOC zone.
